Terms & Conditions

The rules for using Merit Property Care, for customers and for handymen.

Last updated: 26 July 2026

Draft — not yet reviewed by a lawyer

This set of terms is a working first draft written to describe what Merit Property Care actually does with your information. It has not been reviewed against the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 or any other applicable law, and it must be reviewed and approved by a qualified Nigerian lawyer before launch. Do not treat it as final or as legal advice.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use Merit Property Care, whether you book a service as a customer or carry out work as a handyman. By using the platform you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2. What Merit Property Care does

We are a property care platform. We take bookings from customers, verify independent handymen, assign work to them, check the work was done properly, and keep a permanent record of it. Handymen are independent contractors who provide the services. They are not our employees.

3. Booking a service

  • You can request a booking without creating an account. An account is only needed if you want to keep your booking history and property records in one place.
  • For fixed-price services, payment is taken at the time of booking. For larger jobs we send you a quote first, and payment is taken when you accept it.
  • A booking is only confirmed once payment has been received. We assign a handyman after that.
  • You must give us an address, landmark or bus-stop accurate enough for a handyman to find the property. If we cannot find the property because the details given were wrong, we may treat the job as attempted.
  • You must give the handyman safe access to the property and a safe place to work.

4. Prices and payment

  • All prices are in Nigerian Naira (₦) and include the cost of the service as described.
  • Payments are processed by Paystack. We never see or store your full card details.
  • A 50% deposit of the agreed job price is required before work begins. The remaining balance is due upon satisfactory completion and Founder approval of the job.
  • Subscription plans are billed monthly by recurring payment until you cancel. If a payment fails we will retry, and the subscription may be paused if it keeps failing.
  • Prices may change, but a change never affects a booking you have already paid for.

The deposit clause above needs to be reconciled with how payment is actually collected today (fixed-price bookings are currently paid in full at booking, and quotes in full at acceptance) before launch — flagging this for the founder rather than quietly rewriting either description.

5. Payment safety

All payments to Merit Property Care must be made ONLY to bank accounts registered in the name of Merit Property Care or its verified owner. Any handyman or representative who requests payment into a personal account NOT bearing the company's or the Founder's registered name should be treated as unauthorized, and the customer should immediately report this to Merit Property Care support before making any payment. Merit Property Care is not responsible for payments made outside this policy.

6. Cancellations and refunds

  • You can cancel a booking before a handyman has been assigned and receive a full refund.
  • If you cancel after a handyman has been assigned but before work has started, we will keep 30% of the payment to cover the handyman's time.
  • If work has already started, refunds are considered case by case.
  • Only the founder can approve a refund. Refunds are returned to the payment method you used.

The 30% figure was confirmed by the founder (2026-07-27) and is no longer a placeholder; it should still be reviewed by a lawyer before launch, same as the rest of this page.

7. Supervision and quality checks

To maintain our standard of quality, jobs booked through Merit Property Care may be supervised by a regional coordinator at any stage — before work begins, while work is in progress, and after completion. This may include video calls with the customer and/or handyman to confirm job details, verify progress, or review completed work, in addition to the standard before/during/after photo documentation.

“Regional coordinator” here is the same regional Super-Admin role described elsewhere in these terms and on the platform — a customer-facing name for the same role, not a separate one. Supervision, including any video call, is applied at the coordinator's discretion where they judge it useful, not as an automatic step on every job.

8. If you are not happy with the work

Every job is photographed before, during and after, and reviewed by a regional administrator before it is approved. If the work is not up to standard, tell us and we will send the job back for rework at no extra cost to you. Payment to the handyman is only released after the work has been approved.

9. Terms for handymen

  • You are an independent contractor. These terms do not create an employment relationship, and you are responsible for your own tax and any licences your trade requires.
  • You must give accurate identity information, including your NIN and a guarantor. Giving false information is grounds for immediate removal.
  • Registering does not mean you are approved. You cannot receive work until an administrator approves your account.
  • You must accept or reject each job you are offered, and give a reason when you reject one.
  • You must check in by GPS when you arrive, and upload before, during and after photos of your work.
  • You are paid by bank transfer after the work is approved and the founder has approved the payment. Payment is made outside the platform.
  • Your rating, trust tier and reward points depend on the quality and consistency of your work. Poor or dishonest work can result in suspension or removal.

10. Things you must not do

  • Take a job off the platform to avoid fees, or arrange payment directly between customer and handyman.
  • Give false information, impersonate someone else, or use another person's account.
  • Upload photos that are not of the actual job, or attempt to alter or backdate them.
  • Harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone on the platform.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the platform or to other people's data.

11. Our responsibility

We verify handymen carefully and check their work, but we do not guarantee that a service will be perfect. Where something goes wrong, our responsibility is limited to putting the work right or refunding what you paid for that job. We are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen.

This limitation of liability in particular needs legal review — what can and cannot be limited is a matter of Nigerian law.

12. Suspending or closing accounts

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Handymen may be removed by the founder. If we close your account, we will still honour any booking you have already paid for, or refund it.

13. Privacy

How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
